West Virginia Bulldog Club

The first organizational meeting of the West Virginia Bulldog Club was held in July 1992.

The second of two informal AKC-required “B” Matches was not held until July 8, 1995, breeder Rick Mouser judging. The best puppy was owned by H.L. Bailey, who is a long-time secretary of this club.

Marsha Allen was elected  president at the July 1995 club meeting.

The club’ first AKC-sanctioned formal “A” Match was held at Huntington, West Virginia, on April 6, 1996.

More members were needed, and several more sanctioned “B” matches were required before a mandatory second AKC-sanctioned formal “A” Match was approved, leading to a license by the AKC to hold specialty shows.

Several matches were required by the AKC for the club to hold its first specialty show. But more than 10 years hard work finally paid off.

Six more informal “B” matches were held before the club’s second “A” Match was approved by the AKC. They were held on:

July 6, 1996 at Charleston, West Virginia, Ray Spivey judging.

July 5, 1997 with Dan Karshner judging.

November 22, 1997, Kim Walter judging.

July 4, 1998. (judge not reported)

July 10, 1999, Marie Andree judging.

November 27, 1999 (judge not reported)

The club’s mandatory second AKC-sanctioned formal “A” Match was held successfully on March 8, 2003.

The West Virginia Bulldog Club’s first AKC-licensed specialty show was held on July 8, 2005, under the guidance of Ms. Kyle Fisher, club’s president.

A total of 63 entries at the club’s first specialty was judged by former BCA president, Robert Newcomb.  Mrs. Frances Little judged 15 Sweepstakes entries.
